At Home Transcriptionist

The Cooley Dickson Hospital is in need of an at home Transcriptionist.

The At-Home Transcriptionist interprets and transcribes dictation by physicians and other health care professionals. This includes patient assessment, work-up, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis, prognosis, etc. in order to document patient care and facilitate delivery of health care services. The At-Home Transcriptionist interacts primarily with those of adult age on an inter-disciplinary basis and internal to the department; must be able to effectively interact appropriately to individual’s intellectual level and physical ability.

This position reports to the Medical Records Expediter in conjunction with the Medical Records Director and operates within established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

This is a 2.5 hour per week position.

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required. One (1) year college or specialized post-high school training as a medical transcriptionist preferred. Certified medical transcriptionist (“CMT”) preferred. One (1) to three (3) years as a medical transcriptionist or a medical secretary with transcription duties is required. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology required. Demonstrated excellent written communication skills, including English usage, grammar, punctuation and style required.  Demonstrated ability to understand diverse accents and varying dictation styles necessary.  Demonstrated ability to use designated reference materials and designated word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment and software applications required.
