Freelance Writing

August 26th, 2013 is looking for a professional freelance writer with a thorough knowledge of motorcycle repair for our motorcycle site

The successful candidate should be able to write and photograph how-to projects, describe maintenance processes, and cover common mechanical and aesthetic modifications to motorcycles. Candidates should have previously published writing — either online or in print — and be proven experts on motorcycle maintenance.

You will be writing for the owner/rider, not a mechanic. So you need to make sure when using any jargon that you explain it very clearly.

Most folks won’t have any experience doing maintenance/repair, so while ambitious projects are great to see, make sure you’ve covered the stuff most people will need to know.

Topics to cover:

  • Step-by-step explanations of motorcycle maintenance: how to change spark plugs, install a drive chain, adjust engine valves, etc.
  • How-to guides to modification: how to lower a motorcycle suspension, install a fairing, change fork oil, etc.
  • Explanations of how to know when a motorcycle requires maintenance; riding habits, service intervals, warning signs, etc.
  • Visual representations of maintenance and modification techniques will be a key component to the how-tos, so photography skills will be essential.
