We are seeking a full-time managing editor to join our remote  content team and lead our writers in producing advice for teachers and students. We’re in the midst of revamping our property to expand our scope and audience – and we need an experienced editor to lead this effort.

The ideal candidate is a driven editor who desires to improve our editorial strategy and position the website as a definitive education resource. We expect you to contribute heavily in mapping our content roadmap, cultivating writing talent, and expanding our user base.

We want someone to come in with amazing reporting, editing, and writing skills. You need to know how to create a compelling story, use engaging headlines, and have a trained sense on what makes a blog successful.

You must also possess an editorial background, experience writing with education topics (edtech, professional development, etc.), and a track record of success working with a significant online/traditional media property.

As managing editor, you will be writing, editing, proofing, and publishing daily content for the website. This content includes: featured editorials, professional advice, product reviews, and news recaps. You would be responsible for both producing your own content and editing the work of others.

This is a remote position but you will be working with a dedicated, collaborative team.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure published content meets quality guidelines and editorial standards
  • Edit all content for grammar and punctuation errors
  • Lead ideation sessions and development of editorial calendar
  • Assist with recruiting and managing writing talent to meet production goals
  • Assist with daily web production duties (social media accounts, outreach, etc.)
  • Meet individual production goals and deadlines
  • Optimize all content for best SEO practices
  • Continually strive to improve effectiveness of content and identify marketing opportunities

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications or related field
  • Master’s degree (preferred)
  • Education-related writing background/knowledge (preferred)
  • 3 or more years of editing and writing experience
  • 3 or more years of planning and executing a media property’s editorial strategy
