Virtual Researching Job In Social Services

AIR is looking for a virtual Researcher with a proven track record in building new bodies of work related to areas of positive youth development, school and community-based mental health, juvenile justice, child welfare and/or homelessness.

AIR’s Human and Social Development Program (HSD) is one of six program areas in the American Institutes for Research. AIR’s mission is to conduct and apply the best behavioral and social science research to improve people’s lives, especially the disadvantaged.


  • Develop a mission driven, strategic plan for building HSD’s research and evaluation capacity.
  • Conceptualize the approach, design and other methodological aspects of evaluation and research proposals, including sampling, instrument development and validation, recruitment of sites and subjects, analyses, reporting;
  • Identify, and pursue new business development opportunities, lead and write proposals, and meet financial targets for new business.
  • Strengthen capacity to carry out research and evaluation projects by partnering with staff in other AIR units, or with external partnerships, or by recruiting new talent.
  • Direct and manage complex components of large projects or series of smaller projects.
  • Review, analyze, and synthesize data and information using appropriate practices and methods, and ensure all projects are designed around client needs with sound methodology.
  • Maintain excellent client relationships.
  • Bring to AIR preeminent reputation as a national expert in relevant field, with track record of publications and presentation at major professional meetings. Lead and mentor HSD research staff to engage in activities above.
