  • Academica Group is growing the editorial team behind Canada’s leading higher education news daily, the Academica Top Ten, with an immediate opportunity for a part-time Associate Editor.
  • With some support and direction from their Editor, two Associate Editors will be responsible for ongoing daily research, writing, production and coordination of the weekday Academica Top Ten and fortnightly Academica Indigenous Top Ten. Both positions will be part-time, ranging from 15-25 hours per week. Remuneration will be commensurate with experience.


  • Daily scanning of national, regional, and local media sources, college and university media releases and websites, search engine reports and subscriber email tips and media releases. Identifying potential stories that meet the Top Ten editorial criteria.
  • Liaising daily with other editorial staff to prioritize and schedule items to maximize timeliness, regional and institutional balance.
  • Writing up to twelve Top Ten items per day to summarize news stories and digest research reports, in 100 to 150 words each. Assembling links to original sources and previous Top Ten stories.
  • Preparing a draft edition of the daily newsletter each weekday. Proofreading each others’ work. Sending a proof copy to the Editor for review.
  • Posting the daily newsletter for email distribution on various platforms and to our website.
  • Monitoring the comments queue on the Academica website, approving legitimate and legal comments and publishing them.
  • Email correspondence with subscribers, public relations departments, guest bloggers and other parties.
  • Managing the subscriber database.
  • Fulfilling a wide variety of information requests from time to time.
